Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced Employment and Labor Counsel to join its Chicago office. This position combines traditional employment law practices, including litigation and counseling, with data-driven workforce compliance and analytics. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in employment law along with the ability to integrate statistical analysis and workforce data to support key compliance efforts such as pay equity, adverse impact reviews, and regulatory projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional who thrives at the intersection of law, data science, and workforce analytics.

Duties:

Employment Litigation & Counseling:

  • Guide a range of employment law matters, including Title VII, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, DEI compliance, wage and hour audits, and worker classification.
  • Support both litigation and counseling functions related to employment law.
  • Handle administrative charges and litigation support for complex employment disputes.

Data-Driven Workforce Compliance:

  • Conduct adverse impact analysis related to workforce reductions, hiring practices, and performance ratings.
  • Advise on pay equity assessments and compliance audits using statistical analysis.
  • Collaborate with HRIS, payroll, and workforce management teams to ensure compliance with legal audits and workforce reviews.
  • Work with data scientists, HR professionals, and compliance experts on AI-driven hiring systems and workforce management.

Regulatory & Compliance Projects:

  • Manage complex compliance projects involving legal risk assessments, workforce analytics, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide counsel on DEI compliance, ethics, and audits for government contractors.
  • Identify appropriate statistical methods to address complex client legal questions and reduce risks.

Statistical Analysis & Visualization:

  • Lead pay equity analyses using multi-linear regression and other statistical tools.
  • Translate data insights into actionable legal advice, presenting findings clearly through data visualization.
  • Work with teams to wrangle and clean data for statistical and compliance purposes.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Foster strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and long-term collaboration.

Requirements:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership with the Illinois Bar (or eligibility to waive in).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in employment law litigation and counseling, ideally in a law firm setting.
  • Proficiency in workforce analytics, compliance auditing, and pay equity assessments.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment laws including Title VII, ADA, FLSA, and FMLA.
  • Experience with workforce data analysis, including adverse impact analysis and pay equity modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS, payroll, and workforce management data.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools (e.g., R, Python, Stata, Excel) for legal compliance assessments.
  • Ability to manage and independently scope complex compliance projects.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in presenting data-driven legal insights.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Educational background in data science, statistics, economics, or related fields is a plus.
  • Data analytics certifications such as IBM Data Analyst Professional Certificate, Google Data Analytics Certificate, or similar credentialsare preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like SQL, Tableau, or Power BI is preferred.
