Job summary

BraeBurn Country Club in Houston, Texas seeks an Employee Relations Manager to build and lead our first HR program. You will oversee employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, training, benefits, and personnel records, working closely with the General Manager and department heads to foster a respectful, engaging workplace.

The role focuses on developing policies, guiding managers, ensuring state and federal compliance, and supporting talent development to deliver exceptional member

Qualifications

  • Must have 5+ years in Human Resources.
  • Hospitality/ private club experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Texas employment law, EEOC, FLSA, FMLA.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred or in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Lead employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and benefits administration.
  • Counsel managers on performance, documentation and corrective action.
  • Oversee annual performance reviews and training programs.
  • Coordinate payroll support and benefits administration.

Employee Relations Manager

Established in 1931, BraeBurn Country Club enjoys a strong reputation as one of Houston’s most historic private clubs. We are seeking our first Employee Relations Manager to further our focus on recruiting, onboarding, retaining and supporting our talented staff.

Position Summary

The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for fostering an exceptional workplace culture by leading all employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance support, training, benefits administration, and personnel record management for the Club. This individual serves as a trusted resource for employees and department leaders while ensuring the Club maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

The Employee Relations Manager champions the Club's mission, vision, and values by creating an environment where employees feel respected, supported, engaged, and empowered to deliver exceptional member experiences.

The selected candidate will work closely with the General Manager and fellow Department Heads to establish BraeBurn’s first Employee Relations program.

Essential Responsibilities
Employee Relations
  • Serve as the primary resource for employee relations matters.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Counsel managers on employee performance, coaching, documentation, and corrective action.
  • Conduct workplace investigations professionally and confidentially.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all personnel matters.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the Club policies and guidelines as outlined in the BBCC Handbook
  • Coordinates with Social Media Manager to maintain a presence within relevant platforms that showcase Club strengths that are attractive to current and future employees
Recruitment & Staffing
  • Coordinate recruitment for all Club positions.
  • Develop job postings and manage applicant tracking.
  • Conduct initial interviews and coordinate hiring with department managers.
  • Complete background checks, employment verification, and pre-employment requirements.
  • Manage new hire paperwork and onboarding.
Onboarding & Orientation
  • Lead new employee orientation.
  • Ensure completion of required employment documentation.
  • Introduce employees to Club culture, service standards, and policies.
  • Coordinate onboarding with department leaders.
Training & Development
  • Coordinate required compliance training.
  • Support leadership development initiatives.
  • Maintain training records.
  • Assist departments with employee development programs.
  • Promote internal advancement opportunities.
Performance Management
  • Oversee annual performance review process.
  • Assist managers in establishing performance expectations.
  • Provide coaching on performance improvement plans.
  • Track review completion and documentation.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Administer employee benefit programs.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment.
  • Assist employees with benefit questions.
  • Maintain benefit eligibility records.
  • Support compensation administration and market benchmarking.
Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Federal employment laws.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas labor laws.
  • Ensure compliance with EEOC requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA.
  • Ensure compliance with FMLA.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA.
  • Ensure compliance with I-9 requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Workers' Compensation reporting.
  • Maintain required employment records.
  • Assist with unemployment claims.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation documentation.
Employee Engagement
  • Develop employee recognition programs.
  • Coordinate employee appreciation events.
  • Conduct employee surveys.
  • Monitor employee morale and recommend improvements.
  • Promote employee wellness initiatives.
  • Help strengthen employee retention.
Policy Administration
  • Maintain the Employee Handbook.
  • Recommend policy updates.
  • Ensure consistent policy application.
  • Communicate policy changes to staff.
Payroll Support
  • Administer the Club’s payroll.
  • Coordinate employment status changes.
  • Verify personnel actions affecting payroll.
  • Maintain employee records related to compensation and benefits.
  • Assist with payroll audits as needed.
Risk Management
  • Maintain confidential personnel files.
  • Reduce employment-related risk through consistent documentation.
  • Assist legal counsel when employment documentation is requested.
  • Monitor required certifications and licenses.
Qualifications
  • Must speak fluent English and Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five years of Human Resources experience.
  • Hospitality, hotel, restaurant, resort, or private club experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Texas employment law.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office systems.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification or in the pursuit of, is preferred.
