Job Overview

Kansas State University's Office of Employee Relations is seeking applicants for an Employee Relations & Engagement Senior Specialist position within the Division of Human Resources. This role reports to the Director of Employee Relations & Engagement and is responsible for providing guidance and assistance to university employees on workplace issues.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Mediate disputes and conflicts, providing consultation and coaching for conflict resolution among Unclassified Professional Staff and University Support Staff.
  2. Administer and advise on employee performance issues, working conditions, disciplinary actions, and conduct concerns for both employees and supervisors.
  3. Interpret university policies, procedures, and the Employee Relations & Engagement unit guidelines.
  4. Consult with the ER&E Director on complex issues and participate in the Threat Management Committee.
  5. Develop strategies with the ER&E Director to enhance employee performance and engagement; coach managers on supervisory techniques.
  6. Design and deliver training sessions for supervisory staff and administrators on employee relations topics.
  7. Assist with the USS hearing process and manage labor relations, including background checks and the meet-and-confer process.
  8. Mediate labor relations issues, interpret labor contracts, and oversee grievance processes.
  9. Collaborate with Talent Acquisition on background checks and manage ER&E data, including case files and statistical analysis.
About the Department

The Employee Relations & Engagement office fosters positive workplace relationships, resolves issues, and promotes organizational effectiveness. It conducts mediations, facilitates conversations, and coordinates dispute resolution systems. The office also supports compliance with ADA and assists with reasonable accommodations.

Worksite Options

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with work performed both remotely and on-site in Manhattan, KS. Candidates must reside within the United States and near Manhattan for regular on-campus meetings. Remote work agreements are required and subject to review.
