Job summary

Venshure Test Services in Chelsea, MI is seeking an Emissions Technician to safely perform vehicle tailpipe emissions testing on a dynamometer, following regulatory and company testing instructions and maintaining test equipment.

You will load vehicles, run cycles per 40 CFR and SAE J1711, keep calibration records, enter data in Excel, and train teammates while adhering to ISO 17025 and quality standards.

Qualifications

Emissions Technician

Description

Role OverviewThe Emissions Technician is responsible for the safe execution of vehicle-based tailpipe emissions testing. The Technician conducts the testing based on various work instructions required to comply with regulatory or industry best practice for development or certification testing, as well as maintains the test equipment.

Core Responsibilities

• Receive, prepare and secure customer vehicles for testing on a dynamometer, ensuring proper loading and restraints.
• Conduct regulatory-compliant tailpipe emissions test cycles according to customer requirements
• Maintain equipment with the objective of minimizing downtime via proactive maintenance activities
• Ensure all relevant equipment to emissions testing has up-to-date calibration records, performing necessary routine checks and managing the periodic recalibration of devices
• Carry out routine inspections on vehicles, maintain detailed records, and report any issues as needed.
• Perform data entry and reporting tasks using Microsoft Excel and Word accurately record, organize, and distribute test results for internal and external use.
• Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure the facility remains clean, organized, and operational.
• Train other staff on conducting regulations-compliant emissions testing

What are we looking for?

• Knowledge of US tailpipe regulations and test procedures, including 40 CFR part 86, 40 CFR part 1066, and SAE J1711
• Experience conducting tailpipe emissions tests using Horiba ONE and MEXA 7000 series equipment
• Competency with Horiba emissions (e.g. STARS VETS) and general dynamometer troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance
• Familiarity with quality management systems, calibration records keeping, and ISO 17025
• Must possess working knowledge of computer systems for data entry and equipment operation.
• Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting, and executing instructions.
• Possesses strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Ability to manage time and complete daily tasks.
• Demonstrates strong work ethic, integrity, and a high level of attention to details.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Must be able to walk, bend, reach, and lift, if necessary 20 pounds or more. The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Acute vision and perception are required due to the nature of the equipment being operated.
