Job summary

Kodiak Gas Services in Carlsbad, NM, is hiring an Emissions Technician for onsite field work. You will ensure compression units operate safely and meet emissions standards, maintain records, and interact with customers and operations.

Ideal candidates have 0-1 years in natural gas compression, strong mechanical aptitude, and familiarity with reporting and safety procedures. The role requires travel to site tests and regular testing schedules.

Qualifications

  • 0-1 years in natural gas compression or related experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school or related training preferred.
  • Ability to read OEM manuals and technical literature.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Emission Reports legibly and timely per Kodiak procedures.
  • Complete service reports after sensor changes or quarterly tests.
  • Ensure data collection is correct and complete.
  • Maintain emission controls and schedule ICT on startup.
  • Be on location for every state test and prep test data.
  • Test engines within permit limits and perform maintenance guidance.
  • Communicate with operations and customers weekly about compliance.
  • Maintain Testo Analyzer and calibration gases.
  • Attend safety trainings and tailgate meetings.

Position Summary

The Emissions Technician is responsible for ensuring that compression units are operating safely and at acceptable emissions levels. He/she must comply with all company procedures and develop and maintain customer relationships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete Emission Reports legibly, detailed according to Kodiak Policies and Procedures, andsubmittedto Emissions Administratorin a timely manner

  • Complete service report once an O2 sensor, part has been changed, and/or Quarterly Emissions Test has been completed

  • Complete Expense Reports legibly,detailedandtimelyper guidelines set by Kodiak

  • Ensure all assigned units are emission tested each quarter or inspected todeterminethe need for further maintenance requirements to achieve a passing test

  • Ensure all required data collection is correct and complete

  • Responsible for ensuring emission controls are installed andoperatingcorrectly

  • Perform/schedule an ICT (Initial Compliance Test) on unit start up

  • Pre-test prior to state mandated test

  • Be on location for every state test performed

  • Once per quarter each unit is tested for 15 minutes or as dictated otherwise

  • Tune engines within permit limits

  • Changes 02 sensors on rich burn engines

  • Replace, clean and service catalyst on engines with 400HP or less.Get assistance as needed for larger engines.

  • Relay to Operations when engine has mechanical problems resulting in a no-pass test with recommendations

  • Follow-up tests when out of compliance

  • One day per week spent on preparing/submittingreports

  • Once per month servicing truck

  • Weekly Communication with supervisor on any compliance issues, an update of weekly schedule

  • Maintaining Testo Analyzer and calibration gases

  • Maintain communications with operations and customers

  • Assurance of proper permit limits for equipment based on location, area,stateand federal guidelines

  • Attend all company safety and training programs asrequired.

  • Attend required tailgate safety meetings.

  • Assistin review andupgrade ofcompany safety policies and procedures.

  • Understand and follow all Kodiak and customer safety policies and procedures.

  • Report all safety hazards and incidents to Supervisor or Manager

Education, Experience & Training
  • 0-1 years in natural gas compression or related experience

  • OEM, trade school, or comparable work experience in a related field/industry

  • Day-to-day completion of job responsibilities with minimal supervision

  • Strong mechanical intuition or ability

  • Comprehension of OEM and miscellaneous technical manuals and literature

  • Operation of commercial vehicles and cranes

  • Strong mechanical aptitude/mechanically inclined.

  • Communication and customer service skills

  • High levelof organizational skills

  • Microsoft Office suite (excel, word, outlook)

  • Positive attitude andhigh levelof energy

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Demands
  • Overtime, extended or non-traditional working hours may berequired

  • Must be able to stand or walk on uneven terrain, climb personnel stairs and ladders, stoop,squatand/or crawl depending on the directed task

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, weatherconditionsand environments on a location-by-location basis

  • High noise environment (>85dbA) will occur with ear protection

  • Potential controlled, exposure to hazardous chemicals

  • Ability tolift upto 50 lbs.

  • Standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, twisting forlong periodsof time

  • Climb ladders up to 25 feet

  • Ability to use common hand tools related to job needs
