Job summary

General Motors Company is seeking a Subsystem Architect to define and evaluate subsystem building blocks for GM Defense vehicles. You will lead trade studies, translate needs into architectural requirements, and drive data-based recommendations across engineering teams.

Role requires broad subsystems expertise, EMI/EMC/PSDS focus, and experience with cross-functional programs. This hybrid role emphasizes early risk assessment, design for manufacturability, and support for concept demonstrator

Qualifications

• BSE or BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years in vehicle, subsystem, or product engineering.
• Experience in vehicle integration, subsystem architecture, or system-level engineering.
• Ability to evaluate alternatives with data on cost, mass, performance, packaging, and timing.
• Strong engineering theory and principles for mechanical/electrical systems.
• Experience leading or supporting trade studies, matrices, and down-selection.
• Ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, finance, and program teams.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• U.S. Person; eligible for U.S. export-controlled programs.

Responsibilities

• Identify subsystem architecture options and building-block alternatives for GM Defense vehicles.
• Lead trade studies comparing options using packaging, performance, cost, mass, and timing.
• Translate needs into subsystem requirements and decision criteria.
• Partner with design, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and finance teams to assess feasibility.
• Develop recommendation packages with trade-offs and risks.
• Support concept development, evaluation of carryover and new-subsystem solutions.
• Assess compatibility with overall vehicle architecture and interfaces.
• Facilitate technical reviews to align subsystem decisions across teams.
• Assist in planning demonstrator builds and coordinating parts and materials.
• Create engineering analyses, matrices, and documentation for leadership reviews.
• Identify timing risks and dependencies for architecture decisions.
• Support executives with technical recommendations and scenario analysis.
