Job Description

Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.

Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables; works alternate schedule with the Store Manager with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.

Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and performing their responsibilities to achieve company deliverables.

Customer Experience
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Models and shares customer service best practices.
  • Monitors customer service, provides coaching, training, and develops plans for improvements in both the front-end and pharmacy. Empowers team members to find impactful resolutions for customers; seeks solutions that exceed customer expectations and build loyalty.
  • Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
  • Supervises store operation and team activities, including assigning daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, managing shift changes, and approving schedules and time records.
  • Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external services, acting as a resource for the Pharmacy Operations Manager.
  • Supports data-driven decision making, monitoring impact through analysis and team input.
  • Manages store cash operations, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, and safe deposits.
  • Oversees inventory management for front end and pharmacy, analyzing trends and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensures store cleanliness, safety, and maintenance; manages repair and emergency responses.
  • Ensures team proficiency with computer systems and software.
  • Maintains compliance with policies, laws, and regulations, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, food, and pharmacy products.
  • Completes special tasks and assignments as needed.
Business Performance Management
  • Analyzes financial and operational data to support store goals and growth initiatives.
  • Uses KPIs and other tools to engage the team and identify sales opportunities.
  • Supports pharmacy operations during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician if needed.
People & Performance Management
  • Leads and trains team members, providing coaching and career development support.
  • Handles performance management, including discipline and termination when necessary.
  • Develops staffing plans, recruits, and manages talent pipelines for future leadership.
  • Follows proper procedures for hiring, training, and record keeping.
  • Establishes a culture of accountability with clear expectations and performance reviews.
Training & Personal Development
  • Completes Store Manager training programs and ongoing development courses.
  • Monitors personal performance and seeks continuous improvement.
  • Maintains valid pharmacy technician license as required.
Communications
  • Maintains open communication with team through meetings and one-on-one discussions.
  • Supports strategic planning and communication of company goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or completed Walgreens Community Internship Program, or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience.
  • Leadership skills, professional ethics, motivation, communication, and business acumen.
  • Completion of Store Manager training (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks.
  • Fluent in English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to accept promotion to Store Manager and transfer locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Management experience, including supervising others and managing both front-end and pharmacy.
  • Retail or food industry experience preferred for external candidates.
