Job Description
Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.
Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables; works alternate schedule with the Store Manager with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.
Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and responsible for achieving company goals.
Customer Experience
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance. Resolves customer complaints promptly and answers questions to ensure a positive experience. Shares customer service best practices.
- Monitors customer service, provides coaching, training, and develops improvement plans for both front-end and pharmacy teams. Empowers team members to find impactful resolutions, exceeding customer expectations and building loyalty.
- Responsible for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
- Supervises store operations and team activities, including assigning tasks, delegating, opening/closing shifts, approving time records, and managing schedules to ensure proper coverage.
- Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external partnerships.
- Supports data analysis and decision-making processes to monitor and improve store performance.
- Manages cash handling procedures, including register counts, bank withdrawals, and safe deposits.
- Supervises inventory management, including resets, price changes, and trend analysis to create corrective actions.
- Ensures store cleanliness, safety, and maintenance, responding to emergencies as needed.
- Ensures team proficiency with computer and technology systems.
- Maintains compliance with policies, laws, and regulations, including sale of regulated products.
- Completes special assignments as needed.
Business Performance Management
- Analyzes financial and performance data to create action plans supporting business goals.
- Uses KPIs and other tools to engage the team and drive store improvements.
- Supports pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician if necessary.
People & Performance Management
- Leads and trains team members, providing coaching and career development support.
- Manages performance through goal setting, feedback, and recognition.
- Recruits and retains talent, manages staffing needs, and develops future leaders.
- Follows proper procedures for hiring, training, and record keeping.
- Fosters a culture of accountability through performance management and discipline.
Training & Personal Development
- Completes Store Manager training programs and ongoing development courses.
- Monitors own performance, seeks feedback, and maintains an Individual Development Plan.
- Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy technician license as required.
Communications
- Maintains open communication with team through meetings and discussions.
- Assists in planning and communicating store strategies.
External Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program; or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrates leadership, ethics, self-motivation, communication skills, and business acumen.
- Willing to complete Store Manager training (LEAP) or Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks if placed in ESM role.
- Fluent in English (except Puerto Rico).
- Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Open to promotion and relocation to other Walgreens stores.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Management experience, including supervising teams and managing both front-end and pharmacy operations, preferred for internal candidates.
- Retail or food industry experience, preferred for external candidates.
