Job summary

The California State University, Sacramento is seeking an Assistant Program Coordinator Trainee for the MLK Black Student Resource Center. This temporary, full-time trainee role supports a mentor Program Coordinator and develops skills to operate at SSP IB level.

The APCT assists in delivering integrated student success programs, mentors students, and collaborates with interns and staff to promote leadership, academic achievement, and inclusive campus culture.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior.
• Knowledge of research and observation techniques for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
• Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
• Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
• Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews.
• Ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally, to write clear and concise reports, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
• Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Program Coordinator in delivering integrated support services and programming aimed at improving students’ academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience.
• Serve as a mentor and advisor to students and work with interns and student assistants to support staff who design and deliver programs for graduate and/or undergraduate students.
• Support staff in planning and delivering programs and events that promote student excellence through engagements, materials, and campus committee representation.
• Prepare clear, concise reports and documentation related to program activities and outcomes.
• Represent the center on campus committees as needed.
