Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lighting Design Intern for Summer 2027 to work from our Arlington, VA office with consideration also in Los Angeles, CA and Boston, MA. You will join a team of designers and engineers on real projects from concept through construction, gaining hands-on experience in lighting design and related technical disciplines.

This 12-week summer internship starts May 17, 2027, with a focus on developing technical, social, and ethical skills in architectural lighting.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited Lighting Design or related program with Aug 2027 graduation or later.
• Authorized to work in the United States at internship start.
• Interest in architectural lighting, daylighting, lighting controls, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
• Ability to take direction from mentors and manage projects.

Responsibilities

• Support architectural lighting design tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn the fundamental principles of architectural lighting design.
• Support lighting designers on a variety of project types and market sectors.
• Perform lighting calculations and assist with lighting analysis using industry‑standard tools.
• Prepare materials for client presentations, design reviews, and project meetings.
• Assist with lighting mock‑ups, product evaluations, and design studies.
• Participate in project research, field investigations, and site observations.
• Help prepare design documentation, specifications, and technical deliverables.
• Support construction‑phase services, including responses to RFIs and shop drawing reviews.
• Assist in collecting, organizing, and maintaining project documentation.
• Participate in collaborative design discussions with architects, interior designers, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
