Job summary

MedVet in Mountain View, CA seeks an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician for overnight shifts to support a fast-paced ER team. You will assist DVMs, monitor patients, perform in-house labs, and educate clients on care plans and medications.

Qualifications

• License as a Veterinary Technician is required or preferred.
• Experience in veterinary settings, especially emergency, is highly valued.
• Strong mathematical skills for drug dosages and CRI calculations.
• Ability to communicate clearly with clients and teammates.
• Flexibility to work overnights and potentially additional hours.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Coordinate with care team on treatment plans and nursing care.
• Educate clients on home care, medications and hospital care.
• Assist veterinarians with patient assessments, treatments and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house lab tests and prepare samples for outside labs.

Emergency Veterinary Technician - Overnights

Proposed Schedule

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 8PM - 6PM

Compensation

The hiring range for this position is $28.25 - $44.00/hour based on skillset and experience. We support our evening caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8pm-11:59pm = base pay +$4/hour
• Hours worked between 12am-8am = base pay +$6/hour
• Hours worked on Saturday and Sunday (day or night) = base pay + $3/hour + any applicable differentials.

What you’ll do

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
