MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our hospital team in New Orleans. You will work with Hospitalists to provide emergency in-patient care, treat critically ill patients, run in-house diagnostics, administer meds, and support anesthesia and monitoring during procedures.

You’ll document rounds and collaborate with DVMs to deliver exceptional care. Ideal candidates have 2+ years in emergency/critical care, are comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and proficient in

• 2+ years of emergency and/or critical care experience.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.
• Proficient in calculating drug doses and CRIs.

Responsibilities

• Work with Hospitalists to provide emergency in-patient care.
• Treat critically ill and injured patients.
• Place long-lines (PICC, Drum, Central Lines) as needed.
• Perform in-house diagnostics (blood work, radiographs, etc).
• Administer blood transfusions and vasopressors.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and high-flow oxygen.
• Assist with extracorporeal procedures and critical care rounds.
• Record rounds, discuss cases, and gather information for treatment plans.
• Educate clients on home care, medications, and wellness.

We are looking for: Emergency Veterinary Technician

• Working with Hospitalist to provide emergency in patient care

What you’ll do:

• Practice at the top of your experience
• Treat critically ill and injured patients
• Place long-lines (PICC lines, Drum lines, and Central Lines)
• Perform in-house diagnostics (blood work, radiographs, etc)
• Administer blood transfusions
• Administer vasopressors and pain medications
• Set up the mechanical ventilator and hi-flow nasal oxygen
• Assist with extracorporeal procedures (TPE, hemoperfusion)
• Monitor critically ill patients
• Interact with clients to help them understand their pet’s care
• Collaborate with DVMs to provide exceptional care to our hospitalized patients
• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician with 2+ years of experience in emergency and/or critical care
• A team player with a growth mindset
• Self-motivated and a critical thinker
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment
• Proficient in “medical math:” comfortable calculating drug doses and making CRIs
• Comfortable with high acuity cases and humane euthanasia
