BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians for our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, perform digital radiography, and monitor vitals. You will mentor co-workers and provide compassionate care to pets and clients in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Experience as Veterinary Technician in Emergency/Critical Care.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy and placing IV catheters.
• Ability to triage emergencies and monitor vitals.
• Ability to perform CPR and recognize arrest risk.
• Ability to mentor and train coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Understand normal ranges for vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Place and maintain IV catheters and manage IV lines.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Mentor and train other staff and address client concerns.

Sign-on bonus up to $5,000 for qualified LVT, CVT, RVT, LVMT, or VTS! Pay: $21.00 - $43.00 / hour This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year.

Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
