Job summary

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency in Marietta, GA is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our fast-paced team. You will work alongside board-certified clinicians and veterinarians to triage, diagnose, and treat a diverse emergency caseload.

We offer daytime and swing shifts, 12-hour shifts, mentorship from experts, and opportunities to grow in emergency and specialty medicine.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of Emergency, ICU, Urgent Care, or Specialty veterinary experience.
  • Proficiency with drug calculations, CRIs, anesthesia, and emergency nursing.
  • IV catheter placement, blood collection, diagnostics, and hospitalized patient care.
  • Calm, organized, and decisive in high-acuity situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform emergency triage and patient assessment.
  • Stabilize and monitor trauma, respiratory distress, toxicity, seizures, pain, urinary obstruction, GI emergencies, and other urgent conditions.
  • Place IV catheters and collect blood and diagnostic samples.
  • Administer medications, fluid therapy, and CRIs.
  • Monitor hospitalized emergency patients.
  • Assist with RECOVER CPR and emergency resuscitation.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records.

Description

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is growing, and we're adding experienced Emergency Veterinary Technicians to our expanding Emergency Services team.

Work alongside five Board-Certified Criticalists, experienced Emergency Veterinarians, and specialty clinicians while caring for a diverse and challenging emergency caseload.

Daytime and Swing Shift Opportunities

7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

2:00 PM – 2:00 AM

12-hour shifts supporting triage, diagnostics, treatments, procedures, stabilization, and ongoing emergency patient care.

What You'll Do
  • Perform emergency triage and patient assessment
  • Stabilize and monitor patients with trauma, respiratory distress, toxicity, seizures, pain, urinary obstruction, GI emergencies, and other urgent conditions
  • Place IV catheters and collect blood and diagnostic samples
  • Administer medications, fluid therapy, and CRIs
  • Monitor hospitalized emergency patients
  • Assist with RECOVER CPR and emergency resuscitation
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns promptly
  • Perform and process in-house laboratory diagnostics
  • Assist with digital radiography, ultrasound, and emergency diagnostics
  • Prepare patients for emergency procedures
  • Assist with wound care, bandaging, catheter placement, and other treatments
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records
  • Assist with emergency procedures and surgeries
  • Monitor anesthesia using ECG, pulse oximetry, capnography, blood pressure, and temperature
  • Support perioperative care, pain management, and patient recovery
  • Partner with Emergency Veterinarians, Criticalists, specialty clinicians, and fellow technicians
  • Maintain efficient patient flow during busy periods
  • Communicate patient updates clearly and effectively
  • Support clients compassionately during stressful situations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment environment
What We're Looking For

Required

  • 3–5 years of Emergency, ICU, Urgent Care, or Specialty Veterinary experience
  • Strong emergency triage and patient assessment skills
  • Proficiency with drug calculations, CRIs, anesthesia, and emergency nursing
  • Experience with IV catheter placement, blood collection, diagnostics, and hospitalized patient care
  • Calm, organized, and decisive in high‑acuity situations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for Emergency and Specialty Veterinary Medicine

Preferred

  • Licensed, Registered, or Certified Veterinary Technician
  • RECOVER CPR certification
  • Advanced anesthesia experience
  • Emergency or Specialty CE
  • Interest in pursuing VTS certification

Physical and Work Environment

This is an active Emergency and Specialty Veterinary Hospital. Candidates should be comfortable with:

  • Lifting, carrying, and restraining animals up to 50 lbs.; assistance/equipment available for heavier patients
  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and moving throughout the hospital for extended periods
  • Handling fractious, fearful, injured, and medically fragile animals
  • Cleaning, disinfecting, stocking, and maintaining treatment areas
  • Exposure to animal hair, dander, saliva, urine, feces, blood, bodily fluids, and medical waste
  • Working around veterinary cleaning products, disinfectants, medications, and other hospital chemicals
  • Following infection‑control procedures and wearing appropriate PPE
  • Remaining alert and responsive in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity Emergency environment

Exposure to animals, allergens, bodily fluids, medical waste, and veterinary cleaning products is a routine part of working in Emergency and Specialty Medicine.
