Job summary

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency – Dunwoody, Georgia is opening October 2026 and is building a founding Emergency Nursing Team of skilled Veterinary Technicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Registered Veterinary Technicians, and CVTs who are passionate about emergency medicine.

Selected team members will begin onboarding at our Marietta hospital in September 2026, learning alongside experienced clinicians before transitioning to the Dunwoody location.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of veterinary hospital experience preferred.
  • Experience in Emergency, Critical Care, or high-volume practice.
  • Strong foundation in nursing, monitoring, and venipuncture.
  • Excellent client communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing support for emergency and critical patients.
  • Perform triage and assist with prioritization.
  • Administer medications via IV, IM, and SQ.
  • Perform venipuncture and IV catheter placement.
  • Assist with laboratory diagnostics and point-of-care testing.
  • Support anesthesia monitoring and critical care.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is growing.

Following the success of our flagship specialty and emergency hospital in Marietta, Georgia, we are preparing to open our newest location in Dunwoody in October 2026. We are building a founding Emergency Nursing Team of skilled Veterinary Technicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs), and experienced Veterinary Assistants who are passionate about emergency medicine, advanced patient care, and making a meaningful impact during critical moments.

Selected team members will begin onboarding and specialty training at our established Marietta hospital beginning September 2026, providing the opportunity to learn alongside experienced emergency clinicians, specialists, and advanced nursing teams before transitioning into our brand-new Dunwoody facility.

What You'll Do

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will provide advanced nursing support for emergency and critical patients while partnering closely with veterinarians and specialty teams.

Emergency Nursing and Patient Care

  • Perform patient assessments, obtain vital parameters, and recognize changes in patient condition
  • Triage incoming emergency cases and assist with prioritization of patient needs
  • Provide nursing care for hospitalized emergency and critical patients
  • Administer medications through appropriate routes including IV, IM, and SQ
  • Manage fluid therapy, constant rate infusions (CRIs), and blood product administration when indicated
  • Participate in patient rounds and communicate updates with the medical team

Diagnostics and Technical Procedures

  • Perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples
  • Assist with laboratory diagnostics and point-of-care testing
  • Perform digital radiography and proper patient positioning
  • Support advanced diagnostic procedures as needed

Emergency Procedures and Critical Care Support

  • Assist with sedation, anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Monitor patients utilizing ECG, pulse oximetry, blood pressure monitoring, capnography, and temperature monitoring
  • Support oxygen therapy, oxygen cages, and other critical care interventions
  • Assist with CPR and emergency response efforts
  • Maintain patient comfort, safety, and continuity of care

Team Collaboration and Clinical Excellence

  • Partner with veterinarians, emergency clinicians, and specialty teams
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Support efficient patient flow in a fast-paced emergency environment
  • Advocate for patients and provide compassionate support to families during stressful situations
Who We're Looking For

We are searching for veterinary professionals who bring technical confidence, curiosity, and a passion for emergency medicine.

Required Experience

  • 2+ years of veterinary hospital experience preferred
  • Experience in Emergency, Critical Care, Specialty Medicine, Surgery, or high-volume General Practice
  • Strong foundation in:
  • Veterinary nursing
  • Patient monitoring
  • Venipuncture
  • IV catheter placement
  • Medication administration
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Client communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • LVT, RVT, or CVT credential
  • Emergency or Critical Care experience
  • RECOVER CPR Certification
  • Advanced anesthesia experience
  • Experience managing hospitalized or high-acuity patients
  • Interest in pursuing advanced specialty training or VTS credentialing
