WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO

  • Treat each patient and customer with compassion and care.
  • Perform nursing care tasks, monitor patients, and administer treatments.
  • Triages incoming patients using understanding of common diseases and conditions.
  • Administer medications and understand their potential adverse effects.
  • Set up, monitor, and administer IV fluid therapy, including blood transfusions.
  • Contribute to outpatient and inpatient care as a team member.
  • Participate in patient rounds for continuity of care.
  • Be trained in CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.
  • Collect samples, perform diagnostic tests, and assist with imaging.
  • Assist in sedation and anesthesia procedures under supervision.
  • Perform nursing tasks like placing urinary catheters and oxygen tubes.
  • Manage oxygen cages and troubleshoot oxygen delivery equipment.
  • Work alongside licensed veterinary technicians as a vital team member.
  • Obtain additional training for roles beyond nursing care, such as technician credentialing, training, outreach, and leadership.

Veterinary Assistants (where permitted by law) can also:

  • Maintain patients under anesthesia, including mechanical ventilation.
  • Perform advanced vascular access and diagnostic techniques.
  • Participate in treatment and anesthesia planning.
  • Receive further training for roles in training, care coordination, outreach, and leadership.
