Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital in Portsmouth, NH, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for emergency overnight roles. Full-Time or Part-Time overnight shifts (7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.) with a $18–$20/hour base, plus a $5/hour differential for overnight hours.

• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
• Restrict patients for examinations and diagnostics
• Obtain patient histories and record vital signs
• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for incoming patients
• Assist with radiographs and other diagnostics
• Fill prescriptions and review discharge instructions with clients
• Communicate professionally with clients in person, by phone, and via email
• Admit patients for hospitalization and ensure proper identification
• Monitor patient comfort and assist with feeding, walking, bathing, and nursing care
• Maintain clean cages, treatment areas, exam rooms, and hospital equipment
• Stock supplies and assist with inventory deliveries
• Accurately document patient information in medical records
• Help maintain a clean, organized hospital environment

Schedule

We are open to both full-time and part-time candidates!

• Shift Hours: 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.

• Full-Time: Three 12-hour overnight shifts per week, including Saturday and Sunday

• Part-Time: Saturday and Sunday overnights only (two 12-hour shifts per week)

• Weekend overnight availability is required for both options

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an essential role in supporting our Emergency team while helping deliver exceptional patient care.

• Assist with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
• Safely restrain patients for examinations and diagnostics
• Obtain patient histories and record vital signs (TPR, weight, etc.)
• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for incoming patients
• Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures
• Fill prescriptions and review discharge instructions with clients
• Communicate professionally with clients in person, by phone, and via email
• Admit patients for hospitalization and ensure proper identification
