PetVet Care Centers' Pacific & Santa Cruz Veterinary Specialists in Santa Cruz, CA is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team. The role supports licensed technicians and doctors, performing triage, exams, treatments, medication administration, and client communication while maintaining patient comfort.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working as an assistant in the veterinary field.
• Experience in Triage, Sub‑Q injections, history taking, restraint, assisting with exams, and radiographs
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and their owners as they arrive and show them to an examining room
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed staff
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medications or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment such as EKGs and monitors
• Fill prescriptions, record keeping and handling of controlled drugs
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and services
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and safety, including kennels and equipment
• Bath and care for overnight patients; ensure proper discharge grooming
• Maintain accurate medical records and follow directions from DVM/LVT
• Show up for full-time shifts; promote hospital products and services
• Respond promptly to directions and perform other duties as assigned
