Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team in Mobile, AL. Prior veterinary experience is required, with emergency experience preferred, and you will support DVMs, monitor patients, perform in-house lab work, and educate clients.

In this role you will handle anesthesia monitoring, nursing care, client communication, and collaboration with the patient care team in a high-energy, compassionate environment with competitive benefits and ongoing education

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexible with work hours; able to work additional hours as needed.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
