Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Des Moines, IA is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant for their busy emergency department. You will triage cases, assist DVMs, perform diagnostics, and help move patients through ICU or inpatient care while communicating with clients.

The role offers hands-on nursing in a fast-paced environment, with opportunities to grow skills, work with anesthesia, and participate in ongoing training and team development.

Qualifications

• Veterinary experience in nursing or emergency care.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong client and team communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients per hospital standards.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of medications, side effects, and monitor therapeutic responses.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Conduct physical exams and monitor vitals (heart rate, temperature, mucous membranes).
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring for ASA I or II classifications.
• Stay current on RECOVER CPR guidelines and role assignments.
