Washington Avenue Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (WAVES) is a locally doctor-owned emergency and specialty hospital serving the East Bay, founded by longtime veterinary clinicians and leaders who previously built their careers at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists (BAVS). When BAVS closed its doors, our founding team came together to make sure the East Bay didn't lose access to high-quality emergency and specialty care.
As a locally owned hospital, doctors and leaders who practice medicine on our floor make decisions here—not a corporate office.
Located in San Leandro, our hospital offers easy access to Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco — with the food, culture, and outdoor access of the greater Bay Area right outside our door.
At WAVES, our emergency and critical care service is backed by a full specialty team, including Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Surgery, working alongside us. Collaboration is central to how we practice — whether that's a quick hallway consult, shared case management, or hands‑on mentorship from doctors who built their careers on this kind of teamwork.
