Job summary

Wayne State University is seeking an experienced Emergency Associate Veterinarian for the Laboratory Animal Resources on its Detroit campus. The role covers after-hours, weekends, and holidays to provide emergency veterinary care for research animals, ensuring welfare and regulatory compliance.

The candidate will collaborate with research staff and DLAR leadership to maintain continuity of care and to support ongoing studies.

Qualifications

• DVM from AVMA-accredited college or equivalent.
• Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the United States; Michigan eligibility within first year.
• Board certification in laboratory animal medicine preferred or eligible.

Responsibilities

• Provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency veterinary coverage for research animals.
• Assess, diagnose, treat illnesses and emergencies; ensure animal welfare and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with researchers and veterinary staff to support continuity of care.
