Job summary

Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (AVES) in Austin, TX seeks a full-time Emergency Veterinarian to join our multi-disciplinary team. The role offers a non-traditional ER schedule designed to support work-life balance and patient care excellence.

You will deliver high-quality emergency and critical care, work with specialists across disciplines, and participate in ongoing learning within the Ethos network that values growth and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Texas veterinary licensure.
  • Completion of a rotating internship or experience practicing emergency medicine is preferred.
  • Confidence managing emergency cases and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
  • A collaborative mindset and desire to work closely with specialists and fellow emergency clinicians.
  • A commitment to exceptional patient care and evidence-based medicine.
  • A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, and advancing emergency veterinary medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive emergency care through a balanced mix of receiving new emergency cases, triaging incoming patients, and managing hospitalized patients throughout their course of treatment.
  • Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients using evidence-based medicine.
  • Collaborate closely with specialists across Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Anesthesiology, Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, and other disciplines.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.

AVES is home to the only board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist in Austin, providing an exceptional resource for complex anesthesia cases, advanced pain management, and collaboration across our Emergency and specialty services.
