Job summary

Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA seeks an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician for our 24/7 emergency and critical care team. You will provide hands-on nursing care, monitor anesthesia, assist veterinarians, and maintain accurate medical records to support optimal patient outcomes.

We offer a competitive hourly pay range of $30–$35 plus shift differential and 2.5x holiday pay, with a strong team culture and opportunities to grow emergency and critical care

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Licensed/Certified/Registered Veterinary Technician credential required.
• Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, radiology, and dentistry.
• Computer literacy, including MS Office applications.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively.
• Maintains professionalism and composure in high-stress situations; multitasking capability.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and handling animals up to 150 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to hospitalized patients, including IV catheter placement and monitoring.
• Prepare, monitor, and recover patients during surgical procedures.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries with proper restraint and monitoring.
• Perform laboratory diagnostics and document/communicate results.
• Operate radiology and ultrasound systems with safety regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and administer medications and treatments per protocol; comply with DEA/OSHA.
• Maintain daily controlled drug logs and storage of controlled substances.
• Create and update treatment plans in medical records; ensure accuracy.
• Support hospital operations with medical records, charge entry, and chart auditing.
• Provide client education on preventative care, medications, and nutrition.
• Maintain clean, stocked treatment and surgical areas with sterile conditions.
• Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies.
• Promote a positive workplace culture through teamwork and communication.
• Perform additional duties as assigned and ensure compliance with state laws and hospital policies.
