Position Overview

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Fleet Operations, within the Division of Support Services, manages the inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire and rescue apparatus, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The fleet includes nearly 300 vehicles such as pumpers, aerials, rescue squads, and ambulances. We are seeking qualified Emergency Vehicle Mechanic Technicians.

Salary Range

Grade 16: $53,510-$70,250; Grade 20: $62,872-$99,659. The anticipated salary upon hire will be within these ranges depending on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections, routine maintenance, and repairs on fire and rescue vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to assess and evaluate service needs.
  • Document findings and repairs accurately.
  • Operate and drive emergency vehicles safely.
  • Provide emergency repair services outside regular hours when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Complete mandatory training within specified timeframes.
Minimum Qualifications
For Technician I:
  • Two years of experience in automotive/truck maintenance with problem diagnosis.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license; valid instructional permit for Class A CDL at start; must obtain full Class A CDL within probation period.
For Technician II:
  • Four years of experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various vehicles and equipment.
  • Same licensing requirements as Technician I, with additional certifications required within specified timeframes.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with medium-heavy-duty diesel vehicles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance standards and diagnostic systems.
  • Experience with fleet management software.
Additional Information

Employees must pass background checks and medical exams. The role is considered essential, requiring reporting during emergencies. Employees must provide their own tools and obtain necessary licenses and certifications.
