Job summary

Sharp HealthCare in Oceanside, CA, seeks an Emergency Department Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to assist RNs, PAs and physicians with simple procedures. The EMT will care for patients from infants to adults and may help with splinting, casting, transport, and basic medical tasks.

The role requires a high school diploma, BLS certification, and a current EMT or Paramedic certificate. The position supports a 12-hour shift pattern (7 PM–7:30 AM) under a SEIU agreement.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or Equivalent.
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – REQUIRED.
• Current San Diego County EMT certificate or current Paramedic certificate. NVCI certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
• Maintain an annual minimum of CEUs related to work (10 CEUs).

Responsibilities

• Assist RNs, PAs or physicians with simple procedures.
• Provide patient care across age groups: infant, pediatric, and adult.
• Assist with splinting, casting, immobilizing, and transporting patients.
• Perform daily equipment checks and assist with inventory and supplies.

$25.000 - $27.590 - $32.670

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU.

In alignment with the STC SEIU CBA, this position will be posted for 7 days internally from 08/14/26 to 08/21/26 and available only to existing members of the ratified STC SEIU Bargaining Unit.

What You Will Do

The Emergency Department Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for assisting the registered nurse, physician assistant or physician with simple procedures. A staff EMT functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse. EMT provides care for infant (0-1 year of age), pediatric (1-13 years of age) and adult (14 years of age and older) populations.

Required Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 Years working in an emergency department.

Other Qualification Requirements

• One of the following is required upon hire effective 2/4/2020: Current San Diego County EMT certificate or current Paramedic certificate. NVCI certification, required within 90 days of hire or transfer. Maintain an annualminimum of 10 related to work CEUs from TCMC, or other source,in lieu of maintaining CNA certification. Applies only to employees with CNA certifications who were hired or transferred to thisjob prior to 2/4/2020.

Completes daily unit equipment checks and logs to meet JCAHO/DHS requirements. Assists with inventory, stocking, and ordering of supplies and equipment (voluntary).

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in English.
• Computer skills preferred.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job (light to heavy lifting and/or pushing of patients or equipment).
