Job Summary: The Emergency Department Technician Paramedic is to assist with patient care ranging from minor injury and illness to initiating advanced life support measures within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and MD. Integral member of the Emergency Department performing specific technical tasks as outlined on the technician’s skills competency check list. Accurately documents care provided in patient medical record. Assists with in-hospital patient transports. If certification level appropriate and interested, cross-trains to Ambulance Transport. Assists with secretarial duties. Stocks patient supplies and assists with inventory. Monitors equipment to ensure working order and cleanliness. Enters work orders for broken equipment. Cleans patient rooms and equipment between patients. Performs IV/IO access. Operates mechanical IV Pumps. Operates Defibrillator to include cardioversion and cardiac pacing.
Patient Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, providers, and all levels of healthcare.
Nursing Expertise: Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High School or GED required.
Experience: EMTs – 1 year of current documented field experience or one year current healthcare experience.
Licensure: EMT-P.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Basic patient assessment skills including primary survey. Basic knowledge of primary interventions. Demonstrated effective communication skills. High level of compassion, desire to help others, and self-confidence. Basic computer knowledge with demonstrated administrative skills.

Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand. The job requires constant sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. occasionally. For any weight over 35 lbs. use Safe Handling Equipment.
