Emergency Services Tech Specialist - Full time - 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM - (2400035A)

Description

Collaborates with the multidisciplinary healthcare delivery team to provide care to patients with a wide range of injuries and illnesses. Anticipates patient care needs and facilitates diagnostic and treatment measures. Performs duties under supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician. Acts as a role model for other technicians in technical and behavioral aspects. Develops competency in all role aspects within 3 months.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
2 years of direct patient care experience in an emergency setting and completion of an emergency, medical, or nursing technician training program. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Adhere to hospital policies on patient care, competency validation, and safety.

Functional Accountabilities

Demonstrate Clinical Competence

  • Identify, obtain, and document patient vital signs accurately.
  • Recognize and report changes in patient condition to RN/physician.
  • Set up and monitor equipment, including alarm limits.
  • Administer oxygen and cooling therapies, document procedures.
  • Apply, maintain, and document restraint devices per policy.
  • Perform POCT independently.
  • Perform phlebotomy and IV starts on difficult patients.
  • Set up IV fluids and pumps aseptically, document procedures.
  • Perform wound care and burn debridement.
  • Assist with spinal immobilization and orthopedic procedures.
  • Assist with crutch fitting and patient education on crutch walking.
  • Assist with helicopter arrivals and triage procedures as directed.

Assist with Patient Flow

  • Maintain a clean and organized care environment.
  • Prepare examination rooms and assist with patient intake and transport.
  • Provide basic care to family members and ensure a safe environment.
  • Assist with examinations and procedures, document all activities accurately.

Promote Positive Communication

  • Document all care activities accurately.
  • Communicate tactfully with patients, families, and team members.
  • Use problem-solving skills for unfamiliar situations.

Provide Comforting Approach to Patients & Families

  • Address patients and families supportively and respond to their needs.
  • Orient patients and families about procedures and hospital rules.
  • Provide emotional support during procedures.

  • Verify information before acting or documenting.
  • Pause when uncertain and resolve issues thoroughly.
