IHA in New Hampton, IA is seeking a Part-time ER Technician/Nurse Aide to provide direct patient care under RN/LPN supervision in the Emergency Department.

This role includes registering patients, entering charges, assisting in Medical-Surgical and SDS/Operating Room areas as needed, and maintaining accurate patient records. Flexible day shifts and weekend coverage with prior hospital experience preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provides competent patient care to ER patients under supervision of RN/LPN, applying age-appropriate care.
• Registers patients in the ER and Registration area, entering charges.
• Communicates patient changes to the care team and collaborates with interdisciplinary staff.
• Assists in Medical-Surgical and SDS/Operating Room areas as needed; maintains accurate records.
• Enters charges and maintains patient records; manages logons/passwords for computer systems supporting patient care.

Description

Position Purpose: Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a RN and or LPN in the ER setting. Performs general nursing assistant duties and able to work with the age specific populations according to the age and setting. Registers patients in the Emergency Department and Registration area, enters charges and completes hospital-required paperwork. Assists in Medical-Surgical and SDS/Operating Room area as needed and training completed.

What You Will Do

• Provides competent patient care to the above-indicated patient populations by obtaining and utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills in appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments within the ER Tech scope of practice.
• Registers patient that present to the ER for services and all admission to the hospital following registration policies and procedures. This includes collecting Time of Service Payment, when possible.
• Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to co-workers and to multidisciplinary caregivers.
• Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient care outcomes.
• Enters charges according to billing policies and procedures (EKG, CRNA charges, etc).
• Enters Bed Board data.
• Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate, timely manner.
• Maintains active logons/passwords for computer software systems that support patient care and education.

Hours/Schedule

• Part Time/Days - 12 hour shift 06:00-18:30 and one 8 hour shift 10:00-18:30 weekday shifts. Schedule needs to be flexible with other shifts and weekends as well to help cover the needs of the dept.

Education

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Aide Course Required - Certification preferred.
• State of Iowa nurse's aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible preferred.

Experience

• Previous experience as nurse’s aide in a hospital setting preferred.
• Minimum of one year post high school business education or one year experience in an office setting preferred.

Special Skills, Competencies, And Aptitudes

• Experience with computer software and willingness to learn new software (Excel, Microsoft, Healthland, Powerchart, etc.).
• Detail oriented, requires numerical, clerical, and organizational skills and the ability to perform mathematical calculations and complete patient records.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
