Job summary

MercyOne New Hampton ER is seeking an ER Tech to provide direct patient care under RN/LPN supervision in the Emergency Department. The role includes registering patients, entering charges, and assisting in related areas as needed.

This part-time, day-shift position requires flexibility and teamwork to support patient care and departmental operations in a rural Iowa hospital.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Aide Course Required - Certification preferred.
• Active Iowa nurse's aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides competent patient care to indicated populations using clinical thinking and age-appropriate procedures.
• Registers patients presenting to the ER and processes admissions as per policies.
• Communicates patient changes to the care team and multidisciplinary staff.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes.
• Enters charges per billing policies (EKG, CRNA charges, etc.).
• Enters Bed Board data and updates medical records.
• Documents patient information accurately in electronic/paper records.
• Maintains user access and passwords for systems supporting patient care.

Description:

Position Purpose:

Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a RN and or LPN in the ER setting. Performs general nursing assistant duties and able to work with the age specific populations according to the age and setting. Registers patients in the Emergency Department and Registration area, enters charges and completes hospital-required paperwork. Assists in Medical-Surgical and SDS/Operating Room area as needed and training completed.

What you will do:

• Provides competent patient care to the above-indicated patient populations by obtaining and utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills in appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments within the ER Tech scope of practice.

• Registers patient that present to the ER for services and all admission to the hospital following registration policies and procedures. This includes collecting Time of Service Payment, when possible.

• Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to co-workers and to multidisciplinary caregivers.

• Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient care outcomes.

• Enters charges according to billing policies and procedures (EKG, CRNA charges, etc).

• Enters Bed Board data.

• Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate, timely manner.

• Maintains active logons/passwords for computer software systems that support patient care and education.

Hours/Schedule:

• Part Time/Days - 12 hour shift 06:00-18:30 and one 8 hour shift 10:00-18:30 weekday shifts. Schedule needs to be flexible with other shifts and weekends as well to help cover the needs of the dept.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• High school graduate or GED required.

• Successful completion of a Nurse Aide Course Required - Certification preferred.

• State of Iowa nurse's aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible preferred.

Experience:

• Previous experience as nurse’s aide in a hospital setting preferred.

• Minimum of one year post high school business education or one year experience in an office setting preferred.

Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:

• Experience with computer software and willingness to learn new software (Excel, Microsoft, Healthland, Powerchart, etc.).

• Detail oriented, requires numerical, clerical, and organizational skills and the ability to perform mathematical calculations and complete patient records.

• Ability to work flexible hours.
