Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a dedicated patient care technician for the night shift to round with the previous shift and deliver compassionate care guided by our mission and values. You will promote timely patient placement and assist with daily living activities.

Qualified candidates hold a CNA or EMT license with BLS, and may have CPCT/A or CMA certifications. The role requires reliable documentation, safety awareness, and teamwork within a faith-based health system.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS) is required.
• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification is required.
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is required.
• Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) is required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification is required.
• Certified Medical Assistant/CMAC is required.
• Nationally Registered/Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA/NRCMA/CCMA) certifications are required.

Responsibilities

• Rounds with the previous shift to receive a report on patient care.
• Delivers care in alignment with our mission and values and patient-centric approach.
• Promotes timely patient placement by following hospital policy for admission, discharge, and transfer.
• Assists with activities of daily living and hygiene for patients.
• Maintains skin integrity through turning and repositioning patients and notifying nurses of issues.
• Performs procedures such as specimen collection, IV care, catheter removal, dressing changes, and routine measurements.
• Documents patient care, intake/output, vital signs, weights, and specimen collection.
• Transports patients, records, and equipment within scheduled timeframes and assists with positioning and ambulation.
• Supports nutritional needs by assisting with meals and hydration within restrictions.
• Introduces self, explains role, and uses patient-preferred name.

Job Description:

• Rounds with previous shift staff to receive report on care given to patients.
• Delivers care using the mission, vision, and value statements, incorporating patient-centric behaviors daily.
• Promotes timely patient placement by following hospital policy for patient admission, discharge, and transfer.
• Provides care to patients in accordance with standards of care, including assistance with hygiene, comfort, and activities of daily living.
• Maintains patient skin integrity by turning and repositioning patients, preventing skin shearing, and notifying nurses of skin breakdown.
• Performs various medical procedures such as urine specimen collection, splinting, crutch adjustment, urinary catheter removal, dressing changes, accucheks, hemocults, nasogastric tube discontinuation, IV catheter removal, phlebotomy, and Foley bag emptying.
• Documents patient care according to policy, including intake and output, vital signs, weights, activities of daily living, and specimen collection.
• Transports patients, medical records, and equipment within scheduled time frames, and assists in positioning, lifting, and ambulating patients using safety precautions.
• Supports nutritional needs of patients by providing liquids, assisting with meal setup, and feeding patients within identified restrictions.
• Introduces self to patient, explains role in patient's care, and calls patient by preferred name.
• Follows hospital policy for patient identification, uses universal precautions, and maintains a clean and uncluttered patient environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and to demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. [Required]

Education:

High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]

Additional Information:

High School diploma or equivalent if hold a current CNA license or EMT license OR
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing program and has completed the first semester of Nursing Fundamentals OR has completed an accredited nursing program within one (1) year and has not obtained their license for Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
