Performs basic patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. - Triages patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families.
- Reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Assists patient care staff by performing procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs.
- Provides patient care related to rehabilitation to carry out multidisciplinary care plans.
- Performs unit desk clerk functions when needed.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician orders.
- Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
- Performs blood glucose monitoring.
- Conducts urine and stool/sputum stat testing.
- Assists with transporting patients within the hospital for tests.
- Transports medications to and from the pharmacy and within the unit, along with blood products to and from the Blood Bank.
- Assists patients with daily activities, including undressing, dressing, lifting, and positioning for procedures.
- Has access to non-controlled medication storage and supplies, and transports medications as necessary.
- Coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
