Performs basic patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, maintaining the patient care and unit environment in accordance with policies, procedures, and practices. - Triages patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of patients and families.
- Reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Assists patient care staff by performing procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs.
- Provides patient care related to rehabilitation to support the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
- Performs unit desk clerk functions when needed.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, following physician orders.
- Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
- Performs blood glucose monitoring.
- Conducts urine, stool, and sputum STAT testing.
- Assists with transporting patients to and from the department for tests and procedures.
- Transports medications to and from the pharmacy and within the unit, including blood products to and from Blood Bank.
- Assists patients with daily activities such as dressing, undressing, lifting, and positioning for procedures.
- Has access to and can transport non-controlled medications and supplies as needed to meet clinic and unit needs.
- Coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
