Performs basic patient care under supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area. Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
- Triages patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families.
- Reports changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse.
- Assists patient care staff by performing procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs.
- Provides patient care related to rehabilitation to carry out multidisciplinary care plans for each patient.
- Performs unit desk clerk functions when needed.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician orders.
- Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
- Performs blood glucose monitoring.
- Conducts urine and stool/sputum stat testing.
- Assists with transporting patients to and from other hospital areas for tests.
- Transports medications to and from the pharmacy and within the unit, along with blood products to and from the Blood Bank.
- Assists patients with daily activities, including dressing, undressing, lifting, and positioning for procedures.
- Access to non-controlled medication storage and supply areas is permitted for staff to meet clinical needs.
- Coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
