Job Summary: Geisinger is proud to offer an Emergency Room Technician I position with a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates. The role offers a minimum hiring rate of $15.76, with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. We also offer up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Job Duties:

  • Performs basic patient care under supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment according to policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of their assigned clinical area.
  • Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
  • Triages patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of patients and families.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists patient care staff with procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs.
  • Provides patient care related to rehabilitation as part of multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Performs unit desk clerk functions when needed.
  • Obtains and maintains specimen integrity according to policy and physician orders.
  • Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring, urine and stool testing, and assists with transporting patients and specimens.
  • Transports medications and blood products as necessary.
  • Assists patients with daily activities and positioning.
  • Manages access to non-controlled medications and supplies, and transports them as needed.
  • Coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
  • Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Work Environment & Responsibilities:

Typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for meeting all job-specific obligations and organizational policies. Additional competencies outlined in department-specific orientation are essential.

Position Details:

  • Full Time, Days/Evenings (36 hours/week)
  • 3 - 12 hour shifts from 7am to 7:30pm
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation required

Education & Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required. Basic Life Support Certification required.
