Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Emergency Room Tech to support the Emergency Department with delegated tasks from RNs and physicians. You will perform selected diagnostics, assist with patient transport, and provide clerical and cleaning support to maintain a safe, efficient unit.

Responsibilities include implementing the plan of care, monitoring vital signs, airway management, CPR, wound care, and assistance with activities of daily living.

Qualifications

  • EMT/MA/CNA/LPN credentials or active nursing education program at hire.
  • CPR/BLS certification required at hire.
  • Evidence of ability to perform delegated clinical tasks.
  • Experience in emergency department or acute care settings is a plus.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Emergency Room Tech, you will support safe, cost-efficient patient care in the Emergency Department, performing delegated functions from the RN or Physician.Every day you will conduct selected diagnostics and procedures, assist with patient transport and lifting, and provide general clerical and cleaning support to the unit.To be successful in this role you will effectively execute delegated tasks, support unit operations, and contribute to a safe and efficient environment.

  • Assists in implementing plan of care by performing common clinical procedures and tasks within scope of practice.
    • Basic Airway Management
    • CPR
    • Vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, oral and rectal temperature, Respirations, and pulse oximetry
    • Electrocardiogram
    • Point of care testing
    • Wound care including suture set-up
    • Assisting with eye and ear irrigation
    • Orthopedic splinting
    • Visual acuity
    • Suture/staple removal
    • Assisting with gastric lavage
    • Assisting with activities of daily living
    • Peak flow
    • Breath alcohol
    • Assists with removal of peripheral IV and urinary catheters
    • Conducts clinical activities requiring a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification, such as blood glucose checks and phlebotomy.
    • Decontamination/Washdown with Level C Bio-Haz Suit and powered respirator
  • Assists in making observations, gathering data and identifying patient care needs.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Assists with patient transport and transfer.
  • Assists with cleaning, stocking and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Adheres to safety and risk management standards.

  • completion of one of the following that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program OR Medical Assistant program OR Certified Nursing Assistant Program, OR Licensed Practical Nurse program OR completion of one year of nursing school, upon hire or
