Job summary

HCA Healthcare Summerville Hospital is seeking an Emergency Room Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care within the ER. You will coordinate with providers and care teams, using established nursing models to advocate for patients and families while aligning with the hospital's mission and values.

The RN will assess pain, document care, educate patients and families, and provide timely interventions and follow-up guidance to support outcomes in a fast-paced ED environment.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Less than 1 year of applicable experience.
• Currently licensed as an RN in applicable state(s) or active compact license.
• BLS required within 30 days; ACLS required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management and reassessments after intervention.
• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers and documents care in the medical record.
• Responds promptly to patient requests and anticipates needs to deliver exceptional care.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures.
• Educates on non-medicinal follow-up measures such as diet, exercise, prevention and self-management.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.

What Qualifications You Will Need

• Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred
• < 1 year applicable experience
• Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
