Job summary

St. Luke’s Health - The Woodlands Hospital in Texas seeks an Emergency Room Clinical Pharmacist to support doctors and nurses in safely prescribing and dispensing medications and ensuring patient safety.

You will review prescriptions in your queue, check for interactions and dosing, verify orders, and provide drug information to patients and clinicians. The role emphasizes learning and delivering exceptional care.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacist license in Texas required at hire.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required.
  • CPR/BLS certification required at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Review prescriptions for drug interactions and dosing accuracy.
  • Enter and verify orders in the computer system; label and dispense medications timely.
  • Verify medications prepared by others and ensure accuracy.
  • Communicate drug information to patients and health professionals; resolve drug-related problems.
  • Maintain knowledge for providing clinical services across age groups.
  • Maintain working knowledge of automated systems.

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Emergency Room Clinical Pharmacist, you’ll help our doctors and nurses safely prescribe and dispense medications to help our patients feel better and recover from their illness or injury.

Every day, you’ll build trust in these interactions by reviewing every prescription in your queue. We never rely entirely on the computer to check for safety; we always use an expert for the final check. That’s you. You’ll review prescriptions for potential drug interactions, correct dosing, patient allergies or anything that looks unusual in your opinion.

To excel in this role, you must enjoy learning new concepts and researching information in real-time to provide solutions for our patients. You should also continually look for ways to go above and beyond for your patients, delivering an exceptional experience along with exceptional care.

  • Demonstrates ability to document clinical activities and interventions such as consults, patient teachings and other patient specific information as defined by policy and procedure.
  • Interprets medication orders and/or prescriptions for drug interactions, appropriate drug selection and appropriateness. Accurately enters / verifies the order or prescription into the computer system, labels, and dispenses medications in a timely manner.
  • Verifies and checks medications prepared by other pharmacy personnel.
  • Communicates drug information to patients and health professionals. Resolves drug related problems by consulting with other health care professionals to achieve appropriate patient outcomes. Unclear orders written by a licensed provider are clarified with the licensed provider. Assists the licensed provider in appropriate drug selection and therapeutic regimens.
  • Achieves and maintains an adequate basic knowledge base to provide clinical services for all age groups served. Provides basic clinical services as required by policy and procedure.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of automated systems.

Clinical services provided include cardiovascular services, diagnostic imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density studies), neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level III nurseries), surgery, pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorder services.

Pay Range

$53.46 - $79.52 /hour
