Job summary

The Baltimore City Office of Emergency Management is seeking an Operations Section Chief to join its team. This is a non-benefit, contractual position requiring a bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of three years’ experience with excellent project management, analytical, and communication skills.

An advanced degree and 4+ years in emergency response, public safety outreach, and staff supervision are desired and may enhance candidacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, political science, public health, emergency management, homeland security, planning or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the listed fields.
• Excellent analytical, communication (written and oral), organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Work rotating shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays in an office and at scenes of disasters or accidents.
• Supervise the Duty Officer Program and ensure full staffing of on-call shifts.
• Train staff in hazardous materials handling, protocols, and disaster response procedures.
• Respond to impending emergencies and assist with triage and interagency communication.
• Develop relationships with emergency responders and coordinate with other agencies.
