Critical Access Hospital in Western MN

Located in a popular lake community, this hospital experiences increased activity in the summer due to tourists and travelers.

Position Overview

Seeking a FP/ED physician to support their Clinic/ED starting this summer, with ongoing sporadic coverage over the next 6+ months.

Shift Details

This role involves a 24-hour shift with a unique overlap between managing clinic patients and covering the ED.

Patient Volume

• Approximately 1,400 ED visits annually.
• Maximum of 6 clinic patients per shift.
• During night shifts, about 3-4 ED patients.
• Estimated total patients seen per 24-hour shift: up to 16, likely fewer.

Support Staff & Common Cases

Support staff includes two APPs, with occasional additional MD coverage. Common visit types include boating accidents, hooks, sutures, GI issues, and appendicitis. Trauma cases are transferred to Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, about 1.5 hours away.

Logistics & Preferences

Travel and lodging are reimbursed. The facility prefers physicians familiar with rural communities. Housing is provided, and physicians will not need to stay at the hospital overnight. Coverage is ideally needed Monday through Friday, but partial weeks and weekend coverage are also acceptable.

Credentialing & Start Date

Credentialing takes 60-90 days. The facility aims for a locum to start coverage by mid to late July.
