Job description

Summary

The Emergency Medicine Physician’s role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients at Altru Hospital, providing comprehensive care for injuries and illnesses. The position requires counseling patients on preventive healthcare measures and exercising professional judgment in alignment with Altru’s policies and standards. It also involves achieving annual Patient Engagement and Quality & Safety goals, supporting department objectives, and maintaining accurate and timely documentation to ensure quality patient care and appropriate reimbursement.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with injuries or illnesses.
  • Counsel patients and advise on preventive healthcare measures.
  • Exercise professional judgment in diagnosis and treatment consistent with Altru’s policies and standards.
  • Achieve the Altru Patient Engagement and Quality & Safety goals established annually.
  • Participate in activities and support departmental goals as defined annually.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation to ensure quality patient care and appropriate reimbursement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Doctorate within specified field of medical practice from a respective accredited school.
  • Admissible to sit for either the Canadian or American Board, or certified by the Canadian Board and a member of either the Royal College of Physicians or Royal College of Surgeons, American board certification or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification.
  • Board certification in area of specialty obtained within six years of employment.
  • Granted medical staff appointments at Altru and associated facilities as necessary prior to commencement of employment.
  • Insurable under the Health System’s professional liability carrier prior to commencement of employment.
  • Legally licensed to practice medicine by the North Dakota Board of Medicine and/or Minnesota Board of Medicine, depending on location of practice.

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure effective communication in the workplace and with patients, families, and team members.
