This combined Emergency Department and Hospitalist position involves caring for patients of all ages in a critical access hospital setting. The provider will manage ED patients, admit patients to the acute care unit, observation unit, and occasionally swing bed status, as well as coordinate transfers to higher levels of care and conduct physician‑to‑physician discussions when needed. Telemedicine support from an Avera hospitalist is available for consultation. When the Medical Director is unavailable, the provider will also round on, discharge, and transfer inpatient and observation patients as appropriate. The schedule includes approximately 10-12 hours onsite daily with unrestricted call coverage during off‑hours. The facility averages 6-8 patients per day in the ED, approximately 6 swing bed patients, and 1-2 admissions daily. The patient population is primarily adult (95%) with a small pediatric volume (4%). This is a non‑trauma designated critical access hospital with no consultative services available onsite.
