Job Summary

A Physician Assistant (PA) is a healthcare professional who practices medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician. PAs play a crucial role in the healthcare system by providing diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services. They work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practices, collaborating closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.

Essential Job Functions

  • Patient Assessment - Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood work and imaging studies. Formulate differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.

  • Record Keeping - Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting all assessments, treatments, and communications. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for medical recordkeeping.
  • Continuing Education - Participate in continuing education activities. Stay current with medical literature, guidelines, and advancements in healthcare. Enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  • Emergency and Critical Care - Assist in critical care settings, including intensive care units and emergency departments. Respond to emergency situations and provide immediate care as needed.
  • Quality Improvement - Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and guidelines. Enhance patient outcomes and healthcare delivery processes.

Required Education
  • Completion of an accredited nursing/physician assistant program.
Required Experience
  • 2 plus years' experience as a physician assistant in primary care.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • State licensure and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
