Job summary

Job description

Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider.

About the Department

44 attending physicians, 36 residents, 4 fellows, and 10 Advanced Practice Providers. Provides care for patients of all ages.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Function on a rotating shift schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Perform History and Physical service, Patient Care Orders, Block – Local and Regional, Injection/Aspiration of Bursa or Joint, Trephination.
  • Prescribe Controlled Substances (Schedule II, III, IV, or V: DEA and IL controlled substance license required).
  • Execute Closed Reduction of Fracture or Dislocation, Fracture/Dislocation Immobilization, Laceration Repair, Incision and Drainage, Slip Lamp/Tonometry, and Dental Procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in all areas of APRN or PA practice including medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice‑based learning and improvement, and systems‑based practice.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in Emergency Medicine preferred. Relevant RN experience may be considered.
Nurse Practitioner
  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process.
  • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position.
  • Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
Physician Assistant
  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program.
  • Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost‑effective and quality patient care. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

Compensation

Pay Range: $62,305 - $87,500.
