Job Description

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) - Emergency Department at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. Part time, days vary, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM rotations with weekends and holidays. Two 12-hour shifts per week; rotating weekends & holidays.

EMT Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrates correct stabilization and immobilization of spine and proper splinting for extremities; assesses neurovascular status after splint application and reports deviations to the Registered Nurse and physician.
• Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical transport per unit policy; arranges interfacility transport from freestanding Emergency Departments.
• Collects patient specimens per department/facility policies; assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; coordinates with materials management to ensure appropriate stock and minimize outdated inventory.
• Obtains 12-lead ECG per physician order and provides ECG to physician for review immediately upon completion.
• Reviews Medical Director orders related to disease state; monitors and reports patients’ progress toward expected outcomes and deviations to the Registered Nurse.
• Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and serves as a resource to physicians and nurses to ensure optimum patient care.
• Training: Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training, including: virtual modules; classroom-style sessions (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM); on-unit training with department supervision (times TBD).

Emergency Medical Technician Requirements

• Experience: Healthcare experience
• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification: BLS and EMT-B; active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or current Virginia EMT License/Certification
