Job summary

The Kansas City Zoo is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician to provide basic medical care, customer service and safety support to patrons and staff under supervision of medical providers and the Security Manager.

As an EMT, you will administer first-aid, document incidents, coordinate with medical teams during emergencies, and assist with AED checks. The role requires flexibility to work weekends and evenings in all weather conditions, with a strong focus on safety and compassionate service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• EMT licensure through Missouri.
• At least 6 months’ experience in a similar position.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evening hours.
• Minimum of 2-3 days per month.
• Background and drug screening required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Under supervision of partnering medical providers and the Security Manager, the Emergency Medical Technician provides professional services to Zoo & Aquarium patrons or staff requiring basic medical care, directional or customer service assistance.

POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administers first-aid to Zoo & Aquarium patrons and staff, according to established protocols and levels of training, including:

• Maintaining accurate and thorough incident reports on each specific medical occurrence.
• Immediately reporting serious injuries requiring additional medical care to partnering medical providers.
• Contacting ambulatory services as requested or needed during medical emergencies.

Takes the lead in lost children situations, working to reunite children with parents/guardians.

Assists with monthly AED checks

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • EMT licensure through the State of Missouri.
• EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 6 months’ experience in a similar position.
• OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 2-3 days/month.
  • Must pass a background and drug screening.
