Make a Difference

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will drive emergency vehicles to the scene, assess patients as directed by the EMT-Paramedic, administer treatments, assist the EMT-Paramedic, monitor patients, relay patient information to Emergency Department staff, and transport patients to the hospital. The EMT reports to the Nurse Manager or EMS Coordinator and works under the supervision of charge nurses, registered nurses, and other supervisory staff. All duties must adhere to hospital policies and procedures, and include care for patients of all ages and genders.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

Applicants should be team-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and maintain a positive attitude towards problem-solving.

  • High School Diploma or GED + 6 months of certification classes (Required)
  • 6-12 months experience with an ambulance service (Preferred)
  • CPR and EMT certifications/licensures (Required)
  • Ability to operate ambulance safely per Indiana law and use mapping systems effectively
  • Operate ambulance and hospital radio systems per policies
  • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments and respond promptly to changes
  • Gather relevant patient information and communicate effectively with Emergency Department staff
  • Administer basic life support treatments, including airway management and IV maintenance, respecting age-specific issues
  • Assist paramedics with advanced life support, following protocols and standing orders
  • Maintain ambulance cleanliness and restock supplies as needed
  • Maintain visibility in the Emergency Department and assist staff as needed
  • Work independently to ensure job responsibilities are completed
  • Support orientation of new EMTs, Paramedics, and students
  • Participate in in-service and educational programs
  • Keep current certification records
  • Perform phlebotomy per hospital policies
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of PHI and all patient-related information
