Job Skills / Requirements

Armed SPOs shall perform all tasks under the duties outlined within the Post Orders, which the Office of Safety and Security prepares for all shifts on each post. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Access Control Package
• Screening (X-Ray Machine)
• Personnel screening (Hand Wands / Magnetometers)
• Traffic Control, Visitor Processing, Vehicle inspection
• Communications and dispatching Patrol Operations
• Emergency and event response
• Proper attire in uniform, equipment, and grooming

Emergency Care May Include, But Is Not Limited To

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including AED use
• Pre-hospital emergency medical care for trauma
• Wound bandaging
• Treatment of shock

Additional patient care depends on assessment and historical information.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or AA/AS degree preferred
• Minimum 1 year experience in law enforcement or security; 1 year as a NREMT-certified EMT
• Current SPO (Unarmed) license issued by DC MPD
• Maintain NREMT EMT Certification and AHA Healthcare Provider certification
• CPR certification and Advanced First Aid card
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Demands

• Ability to perform duties physically
• Frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping up to 12 hours/day
• Remain on post for up to 4 hours without breaks
• Stay alert for up to 12 hours to respond quickly to situations

Training Requirements

Complete and pass written exams on:

• Security Post Orders
• Emergency Evacuation Procedures
• Code Bravo
• Watch Tour Procedures

Additional Requirements

• DC Armed SPO License
• Advanced First Aid Card
• NREMT EMT Certification and CPR certification

Education & Certification

High School Diploma/GED; specific certifications include DC Armed SPO, aerosol spray, handcuffing tactics, CPR/First Aid.
