About Duke Life Flight

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Life Flight, Duke Health's critical care and emergency air and ground transport team, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. The team includes paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, emergency medical technicians, and communications specialists who work quickly to provide compassionate care and transport services to critically ill patients of all ages. Duke Life Flight also maintains a Code Blue Response Team and supports event medicine needs.

EMT - Duke University Health System - Duke Life Flight

Duke University Health System's Life Flight team supports over 20 critical care procedures independently, serving a patient population ranging from 22-23 week gestation neonates to geriatrics. You will work with interdisciplinary teams including Basic Life Support EMTs, single provider ALS Paramedics, Clinical Nurses, Respiratory Therapists (Neo/Peds team), and Critical Care Paramedics.

Job Summary:

As an EMT with Duke University Health System, your priority will be providing excellent service while caring for the whole person in a patient-centered environment. The EMT Driver will operate the Life Care Critical Care Transport ambulance and medical support systems, assist with satellite base operations, and participate in ongoing education outreach programs.

• Perform minor repairs to the unit, such as changing light bulbs, replenishing fluids, tightening nuts and bolts, inspecting tires, etc.
• Conduct daily maintenance, including fueling and cleaning of the vehicle.
• Report repair needs to the Clinical Operations Director.
• Assist nursing staff with patient care, including loading/unloading equipment and providing information to family members.
• Replenish medical air, oxygen, and supplies used during transport.
• Have knowledge of streets and highways within the response area.

Work Hours & Shifts:

Full-time, 12-hour shifts, rotating schedule.

Locations may include Smithfield, Durham, or rotating bases, decided during the interview process.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months to 2 years of ambulance or fire truck operation experience preferred.
• 2 years of EMT experience with an active EMS provider preferred.

Licensure and Certifications:

• Current North Carolina EMT certification required.
• Current Class C Driver's license required.
• NC EVD (emergency vehicle driver) certification preferred.
• Current BLS (or higher) certification required.
