Join to apply for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (0.45 FTE) role at St. Peter's Health

This is primarily a 911 response position on a transporting Advanced Life Support service. In addition to 911, the service provides inter-facility transports (locally and regionally) and public event coverage.

The EMT is responsible for the assessment and pre-hospital management of medical, trauma, and environmental emergencies, with or without supervision of a Paramedic and under medical control guidance. Provide patient care based on individual needs, within the scope of practice of an Advanced EMT. Respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring efficient and immediate care and safe transportation to an appropriate medical facility. Maintain ambulance and equipment in good condition.

Assist in the Emergency Department (ED) and other nursing departments with skills performed within the levels of training as needed and directed. Duties include vital signs, EKGs, IV insertions, specimen collection, transfers, cleaning, and preparation of rooms. Attend ED training opportunities as they arise.

Responsibilities and job assignments may change based on hospital needs. Patient transfers to the floor or other locations should be limited to maintain prompt ambulance response times.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge/Experience: 1 year of practical patient care experience with emergency equipment such as suction machines, monitor-defibrillators, oxygen systems, backboards, splinting devices, stretchers, and rescue tools. Knowledge of service area territory, traffic laws, and safety measures.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • License/Certifications: State of Montana EMT License required; NREMT certification preferred. Current BLS, ACLS, PHTLS (or equivalent) required. EVOC (or equivalent) within the first year. Valid Montana driver’s license with an excellent driving record. Participation in a BOME-approved AEMT refresher course and required CEUs.
Aptitudes

Ability to handle multiple tasks and stressful situations effectively. Strong interpersonal communication skills for empathetic patient care and customer service. Flexibility in scheduling and department roles. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills for documentation, medication calculations, and supply management.
